Background - 2029: Arachnes

Revised:  2-26-2012

Arachnes

General
Female human paranormal shapeshifters who can turn into spiders. Two variants exist, a black widow variant and a tarantula variant.

            Powers
Can shapeshift into spiders that vary in size from that of a German Shepard to that of approximately a Great Dane. The widows can spray spider silk out of their mouths. The tarantulas are fast and agile leapers.

Venomous bites from both can paralyze their victims. Can then feed on their victims by draining everything out of them.

They do this by ingesting an enzyme into their prey that breaks everything down on the inside into a 'soup' that they can drink later.

Wounds sustained in spider form can be healed by 'cocooning' which both types can do, wrapping themselves up in a protective silk cocoon and remaining in it while their bodies heal.

Like Regrowers, they can regrow lost limbs by using these cocoons.

            Weaknesses & Limitations
Silver is fatal, in spider form. Normal human weaknesses when in human form.

            Fire is fatal.

Bullets usually aren't fatal though if they are shot often enough and in the right
            places they can  be.
            Legal
            Clearly a legal concern.

            Lifestyle
Females are usually solitary and predatory. Don’t take kindly to others of their kind. This is especially true of Widows. Tarantulas are more accepting (in general) of others.

Widows have an overpowering urge to kill and feed on their lovers after sex, making sex with one a dangerous proposition.

Both species have a strong urge to kill and eat their young. This is especially true if they have more than one child.

Have no need to feed on humans but those that get a taste for it, often continue to do so. Can eat and drink normal food and drink just like any human and don't need to feed in spider form if they don't have to.

            Side Effects
Immune to insect bites/stings of any kind.

Other Paras, Others and the Undead
Most Vampyres don’t have an interest in them. Don’t like the way they taste.

Can be fried to a crisp by Apollos.

Ubi love the challenge of seducing them in human form and feeding on them.

Cannibals tend not to be interested in them. Like Vampyres, they don't like how they taste.

Borrowers tend not to ‘borrow’ their powers because they don’t like them.

Dream Divers can’t dive into their dreams for some reason.

Gifters almost never gift this power out.

Insectiforms can sense them in human form.

Are immune to the venom that Venoms use.
